Position Summary
TCW ESG Research and Engagement Team is composed of analysts that are assigned sectoral (e.g. Industrials and Materials, Technology, etc.) as well as thematic (e.g. Healthy Living, Climate Solutions, Privacy, etc.) coverage, while the Quantitative ESG Research Analysts handle data, analytics, and portfolio construction algorithm development. The team works closely with asset class specific ESG analysts embedded within particular investment groups (e.g. Sovereign or Securitized) and the relevant product specialists and marketing professionals. Quantitative ESG Research Analysts primarily collaborate with the ESG Research and Engagement Analysts to amplify and systematize their work, but also have independent relationships with quantitative counterparts in different business lines (e.g. Portfolio Analytics Group, Risk Management). Quantitative Analysts also collaborate with Technology in order to oversee the sustainable investing data infrastructure and integration of analytics into various tools and platforms, and conduct quantitative security selection and portfolio optimization.
The Quantitative ESG Research Analyst position is a core member of the Research & Engagement team and reports to the Senior Quantitative ESG Research Analyst and through them to the Head of ESG Research and Engagement. The Analyst is responsible for conducting quantitative analysis related to portfolio construction of sustainable investing vehicles while understanding and analyzing various sources of sustainability data using a range of statistical and econometric methods. They work closely with various investment team members to drive investment thesis development across the range of asset classes and relevant TCW sustainable investing products. The Analyst will present results of their work in a clear and understandable manner to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, while staying current on relevant sustainability research literature and market developments. The Analyst may assist with content development and project management related to other areas of the team, including, but not limited to, client-facing thought leadership.
Essential Duties
- Supports execution and project management of innovative sustainable investing analytics for counterparts across Company’s business lines (Fixed Income, Equities, Emerging Markets, and Alternatives)
- Conducts quantitative analysis of sustainability factors and financial metrics, and systematically integrates the results in portfolio construction and optimization
- Develops visualization and quantitative analysis of data, presentations, and other materials for a diverse set of partners, clients and senior decision makers
- Collaborates with Technology to oversee the integration of sustainable investing analytics and data points into portfolio analytics, engagement, and reporting platforms
- Identifies, test and evaluate new sources of sustainable data and propose additions to the existing array of datasets and tools
- Engage, as necessary, with partners across the Firm including Technology, Procurement, Legal, Risk and Compliance to ensure the development and operation of sustainable investing data and analytics stack
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Quantitative Finance, Computer Science, Data Science, or a similarly quantitative field
- 2-5 years of work experience in applying quantitative methods to sustainability in an investment setting, such as an equity or fixed-income trading, sell-side research, or risk management operation
- Experience with one or more statistical programming languages (Python and/or R preferred) and visualization software (PowerBI or Tableau).
- Familiarity with financial market data sources (Bloomberg, Morningstar, Factset, Compustat, etc.) and environmental, social and governance (ESG) data frameworks (MSCI, ISS, Clarity AI, etc.)
- Strong and efficient research capabilities, with ability to assess and analyze a wide range of financial and alternative data sources

Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with geospatial analysis tools (Google Earth Engine, ArcGIS, QGIS)
- Familiarity with AI/NLP news and sentiment or spatial data
- Familiarity with data warehouses and data processing engines like Snowflake and Databricks
Estimated Compensation
Base Salary: $140k – $165k
Other Compensation: Discretionary bonus eligible
