Title: ESG AVP – Portfolio Performance and Investment Due Diligence

Department: ESG

Location: Houston or Washington, D.C.

Reports to: ESG Director

Job Summary: The position is to enhance and support EIG’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives across multiple product platforms and international jurisdictions. Reporting to the ESG Director, this role will lead the engagement on ESG risks and opportunities across EIG’s portfolio companies, and work closely with Investment Teams during investment due diligence to evaluate ESG risks and determine mitigants.

Essential Job Functions

  • Lead ESG due diligence function for all investment platforms
  • Facilitate gathering and analysis of ESG data and information from potential investments and existing portfolio companies
  • Support EIG commitments to Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF) through associated data analysis and reporting
  • Support EIG strategic ESG initiatives with oversight of critical KPIs for tracking by individual investment, fund, sector & portfolio
  • Manage third-party advisors and support during investment due diligence.
  • Provide insight and perspective on ESG issues and risks during investment due diligence
  • For sustainable investments, consider impact indicators and the potential for compliance with EU regulatory frameworks, including the SFDR and Taxonomy
  • Support ESG due diligence requirements for investment teams through training and facilitation of associated tools and templates for data collection and assessment
  • Design and implement ESG engagement program with portfolio companies
  • Research and assess ESG best practices for engagement with portfolio companies and opportunities for improved performance through industry groups and/or partnerships
  • Develop and support communications, presentations, and data disclosures for investors, ESG regulatory requirements, and portfolio companies
  • Presentation on ESG risks and opportunities to investment teams and portfolio companies, and other internal and external parties

Requirements: Essentials

  • Minimum 5 years experience in an ESG or HSE role
  • Experience in the energy industry, oil and gas, power, renewables, and alternative energy sources
  • Working experience with and implementation of global ESG and/or HSE standards and programs (i.e. SASB/ISSB, OGMP 2.0, TCFD, GRI, PCAF, SBTi, etc.) and associated regulatory developments (i.e. EU SFDR, Taxonomy regulation, etc.)
  • Experience measuring and analyzing ESG impacts of projects, particularly pertaining to GHG emissions
  • Experience managing ESG/HSE-related programs for industrial infrastructure developments or operations, with an understanding of associated ESG/HSE risks and opportunities
  • Experience implementing and managing large-scale projects
  • Experience developing and using tools and templates in Excel or other programs for data collection, management, and analysis
  • Solid understanding of how ESG concerns relate to material business risks and opportunities
  • Demonstrated excellent relationship skills, including the ability to train and engage with staff at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team, developing cooperative relationships internally and externally
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to create influential presentations, reports, and other written materials
  • Excellent time management and ability to prioritize and operate under tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and spoken fluency in English
  • Availability and willingness for global travel
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

Requirements: Desirable

  • Graduate degree in finance, economics, environmental engineering, environmental management, and/or sustainability
  • Experience working with financially-related ESG metrics
  • Experience in private equity, alternative investments, and/or investment banking
  • Knowledgeable of socially responsible or impact investing within global capital markets
  • Facility with non-English languages, especially Spanish, Portuguese and/or French – speaking and writing
