Our employees are encouraged to work remotely two days a week as a standard practice and will have flexibility in terms of working hours.

The Position

Climate change is the defining issue of our time, with impacts that span the globe. There is increasing awareness that climate mitigation and strategic transition matters for financial returns across markets, and for the overall stability of the financial system. As a founding signatory of the Net Zero Asset Managers Initiative, Wellington is engaging with portfolio companies to encourage adoption of robust transition plans and science-based targets that align with the goals of the Paris Agreement. Alongside climate mitigation, our research collaboration with the Woodwell Climate Research Center has enabled us to analyze anticipated physical climate risk impacts to our clients’ portfolios, and the adaptation strategies that will be required for businesses to remain resilient, and we are incorporating these insights into our company engagements as well.

Within the Sustainable Investment platform, we are seeking a Climate Engagement Analyst to join our Investment Research team. Based in Boston or London, the Climate Engagement Analyst will be responsible for developing and helping to execute climate engagement plans with portfolio companies in close collaboration with our ESG and Climate Research teams, and investors across asset classes. He/she will contribute to research and participate in engagements on a wide variety of climate issues, across both transition and physical climate risks. The successful candidate will be able to assess the credibility of companies’ transition plans, and will be able to translate our ESG and climate research insights into actionable engagement plans which lead to tangible outcomes that will benefit our clients.

Essential Skills

The following essential skills are required for the role:

Climate transition planning expertise: The successful candidate will demonstrate experience/knowledge of key transition planning concepts, including emissions measurement and target setting, Paris-aligned transition pathways, and relevant climate policy initiatives across geographies and sectors. Climate science acumen, and an understanding of physical climate impacts is also desirable.

Solid understanding of financial markets and an ability to assess company strategy from the investor perspective: The successful candidate will have experience assessing company level sustainability and climate strategies and disclosures across sectors. The analyst will be comfortable working with investors, reading and analyzing company reports, and integrating Wellington’s ESG and climate research findings into company engagements.

Superior collaboration, communication, and influencing skills. The successful candidate will enjoy contributing to a highly collaborative investment environment, and building strong trusting relationships internally with colleagues and externally with portfolio companies. The candidate will be able to communicate recommendations clearly and with conviction, to successfully influence key stakeholders and drive desired engagement outcomes.

Growth mindset: The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to provide a point of view and challenge the status quo, while also demonstrating the humility to admit mistakes and a desire to learn from others. The candidate will be curious and driven to stay ahead of developing market standards, in order to effectively partner with portfolio companies in helping them achieve their decarbonization goals.
