The CalSTRS Investments Branch is seeking an experienced individual to work as an Associate Portfolio Manager in the Sustainable Investment & Stewardship Strategies unit.

The Sustainable Investment & Stewardship Strategies unit of the Investments Branch was established in 1978 to protect assets through good governance and operational accountability. The unit focuses on three primary strategies: sustainability-themed investment strategies across public and private markets; stewardship activities focused on public policy, corporate engagement, and proxy voting; and strategic relations management with CalSTRS members and partners. The SISS unit also leads multiple efforts across the Investments Branch, including the Net Zero Portfolio Emissions by 2050 or sooner pledge, which includes reducing financed emissions, increasing investment in low-carbon solutions, and using influence to accelerate alignment of net zero in the global financial markets. SISS also chairs the Committee on Responsible Investment, overseeing the fund’s adherence to its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Risk Policy.

Under the general direction of the Portfolio Manager, SISS, the Associate Portfolio Manager provides independent analysis to contribute to and influence the development and implementation of CalSTRS sustainable investment and stewardship strategies. The incumbent participates in implementing activities for the CalSTRS Stewardship Program that leverage CalSTRS influence within the global financial markets to support long-term value creation. The incumbent contributes to efforts to evaluate the impacts of the low-carbon transition on the CalSTRS investment portfolio and achieve the overall strategy and goals of the SISS unit and CalSTRS’ Investment Branch priorities.
