ESG encompasses a broad range of activities, many of which are of significant focus for our shareholders and LP investors. Our approach has always been to prioritize those areas that significantly impact the long-term sustainability of the business and to integrate ESG initiatives into how we operate the business. The ultimate responsibility for our ESG strategy lies within our Business Groups. Being deliberate in linking our priorities to the success drivers of the business, whether it is related to our asset management business or the business of our operating assets, ensures our actions achieve the desired results.

As part of the ESG Engagement team at Brookfield Asset Management, this role will report to the Senior Vice President, ESG Engagement. The role presents an opportunity to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of ESG focused professionals within each business group, to collectively drive ESG strategy on behalf of Brookfield. The role will work with the Senior Vice President, ESG Engagement on the management of BAM’s ESG profile, reporting on ESG metrics and related frameworks, and to help drive new ESG initiatives contributing to our climate and decarbonization efforts. As part of the role, this individual will also help lead initiatives to stay abreast on industry best practices and emerging regulation.

A successful candidate is someone that works well in a matrix environment, can develop and navigate relationships across the firm and has excellent written, communication and presentation skills. The role is expected to be fast-paced and dynamic, within a team environment.

Responsibilities:

The role will be focused on driving ESG initiatives on behalf of the overall organization and working directly with Business Groups to provide support on related ESG initiatives. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Management of Brookfield’s ESG profile – both internally and externally to ensure messaging and disclosures are on-point, and consistent and coordinated across Business Groups. This includes:
    • Assist in development of key messages relating to ESG initiatives or matters as they arise. They will also include the development of collateral, as required
      • Develop materials to support marketing or internal training materials related to ESG
    • Assist in meetings with stakeholders/LPs
  • ESG Reporting
    • Lead the annual reporting efforts for PRI, ESG/TCFD reporting, including the liaising with Business Groups
    • Manage ESG KPI metrics reporting for Brookfield and consolidate data collection from Business Groups. Be able to lead analysis on key trends from reporting
    • Lead the centralization of ESG ratings management and providing guidance/support to Business Groups as needed
  • ESG Initiatives:
    • Support Brookfield’s net zero initiative, including the facilitating of GHG emissions measurement and climate initiatives
    • Support research and development of thought leadership on emerging trends and pronouncements
    • Participate in the implementation of various ESG initiatives as they arise
    • Working independently and within the team on ongoing projects as well as special and non-recurring requests

Requirements:

  • To qualify, candidates must have/be:
    • An undergraduate university degree in business, environmental science or engineering
    • CPA designation a plus
    • At least five years of relevant work experience – experience in ESG would be preferred but is not required
    • Dedicated, well-organized individual and resourceful individual with a high level of attention to detail; ability to handle confidential and non-routine information
    • Self-motivated, proactive and demonstrates initiative; ability to work without a lot of structure
    • Team player with positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills
    • Able to interact and communicate with individuals at all levels, both internally and externally
    • Strong MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database skills
    • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize and juggle multiple competing tasks and demands under tight deadlines
