They support one another through challenges and enthusiastically celebrate team accomplishments. Often, they are in the process of enrolling into the CFA program or have already started.

As the successful Analyst or Associate, Renewable Resources you will assist senior team members in managing the Renewable Resources portfolio, which has $2.5 billion of assets under management and is currently growing. You will work closely with senior investment professionals in a competitive global environment, undertaking due diligence on new investment opportunities and monitoring existing portfolio investments. Your attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and commitment to excellence in financial modeling, market research, and investment analysis will form the foundation of your contributions to the group. Over time you will be coached and developed to learn more about the M&A process, negotiations, investment structuring and managing private investments.

Responsibilities

  • New investment pursuits
  • Leverage financial modelling and asset valuation experience to perform qualitative and quantitative analysis to understand the risk and return profile of various renewable resources investments
  • Participate in due diligence meetings with management teams, fund partners, transaction advisors, and other external parties
  • Prepare due diligence and market research analyses for discussion with senior investment professionals
  • Assist in the preparation of screening memos and investment approval memos (CIO, Investment Committee, Board)
  • Asset management
  • Assist in ongoing oversight and monitoring of portfolio investments
  • Observe board meetings and/or limited partner advisory committee meetings
  • Assist with the analysis of add on investments, divestitures, and refinancing opportunities
  • Portfolio management
  • Lead the preparation of recurring and ad hoc asset class commentary and presentations (e.g., quarterly client reports, CIO reports, etc.)
  • Work with the Portfolio Manager to track the Renewable Resources pipeline of new opportunities
  • Keep up to date with Timberland and Agriculture industry research and asset class trends
  • Liaise with internal teams, such as Asset Management, Risk Management, Client & Stakeholder Relations, Legal, Valuations, Responsible Investing, Compliance, Economics & Fund Strategy, Tax, Communications, and Performance
  • Team Management (for Associate position)
  • Train and mentor junior professionals, including Summer Analysts and/or Analysts on the Renewable Resources team

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

  • Possesses a university degree in a Finance/Quantitative field within Finance, Business, Economics, or Accounting. MBA students will be considered
  • Shows a genuine interest in investing and a desire to learn about institutional timberland and agriculture investments
  • Strong understanding of finance, accounting, and business concepts
  • Prior experience in complex financial modelling, asset valuation, and presentation building will be highly regarded
  • Prior role in corporate finance, investment management and/or investment banking will be considered an asset
  • Able to quickly learn about new assets and industries; experience and/or education in Forestry and/or Agriculture will be considered an asset
  • For the Associate position, 3+ years of relevant work experience in private institutional investment management, Investment Banking, Corporate Finance, or other related professions; timberland and/or agriculture experience highly valued
  • Strong problem-solving skills and exceptional research and analytical abilities
  • Strives for continuous improvement and relentlessly creates high quality deliverables
  • Demonstrates excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)

  • Demonstrates a willingness to enroll in the CFA program or has already started
